THE APPLE PICKERS’ COTTAGES
Unique accommodation in the Nelson Tasman region
Discover Māpua accommodation on the shore of the beautiful tidal Waimea Inlet. Stay in one of three private, self-contained cottages nestled in regenerating coastal forest.
Relax into the rhythm of the tides, the wildlife, the weather, yet still be only 5 minutes drive from cafés and restaurants in the coastal village of Māpua.
The cottages were built for apple pickers in the 1950s. They have been carefully renovated, retaining their simplicity and authentic charm while adding contemporary comfort.
Explore the cottages
Staying at The Apple Pickers’ Cottages puts you right in the middle of the Nelson Tasman region.
Located halfway between Nelson City and the Abel Tasman National Park, there are day trips in all directions. Our accommodation offers the perfect base to explore a choice of three National Parks for hiking (Abel Tasman, Kahurangi, Nelson Lakes), golden sand beaches and rivers for swimming, cycle trails, mountain biking, and a variety of golf courses.
If you’re more of a travelling gourmand, Nelson’s sunny climate provides ideal growing conditions for a wonderful array of wine, cider, craft beer, and artisanal food made by passionate local producers. You can visit cellar doors, breweries, and local markets to gather some delicious produce to bring home to your cottage.
Plenty to see and do
This is a place where you can spend all day outdoors exploring the Nelson/Tasman region or where you can be completely content moving no further than your deck. Guests are welcome to explore our 5 acres of regenerating native coastal forest and wetland.
We have been restoring the coastal forest and shoreline for the last 25 years, planting native trees and controlling invasive weeds and predators. By staying at The Apple Pickers’ Cottages, you’re helping to fund and support this conservation project that is contributing to the future resilience of a precious coastal environment.
A natural landscape

What our guests say…
“A million thanks to you for the unforgettable time we spent at your place. We have travelled a lot in our lives and your Apple Pickers’ Cottages is one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen. And as well as the beautiful landscape, it is your merit for having created such a peaceful and lovely place.”
— Marcus and Jessica, Germany
“The most understated and perfect formula for relaxation.
Loved everything ....the changing tides, birds, trees, tranquility, simplicity, comfort, quails, recycling routines, perfect hosts. Came for 6 days sightseeing and ended up foraging locally and staying put in paradise.”
— Tim, Martinborough
“The location was stunning. The surroundings were so peaceful and relaxing, gorgeous sunrises, native birds, it was close to local attractions yet felt hidden from the world. A truly relaxing weekend retreat!”
